Golly’s Folly: A Patrol Original

COMING OCT. 18

Patrol Books is pleased to announce our newest venture: a children’s book called Golly’s Folly: The Prince Who Wanted It All. For the last three years, Eleazar Ruiz (an author and designer), Bekah Ruiz (an equipped educator), and Rommel Ruiz (a distinguished designer and commercial artist), have been working on a very special project. Nathan Yoder, an extremely talented letterer, also contributed to this endeavor.

After the lengthy journey of writing, storyboarding, and illustrating, the final product is ready. Golly’s Folly was inspired by the biblical book of Ecclesiastes, mainly from the idea that everything is meaningless.

Golly’s Folly is a thrilling and adventurous story, dispelling the notion that things can satisfy us. Unfortunately everyone can relate to the main character, Prince Golly, who loves the idea of riches, knowledge, pleasure, and power. The vibrant illustrations will carry your child(ren) along on Golly’s rollercoaster attempt to fulfill his deepest desires with stuff.

Introducing Patrol Books

The gospel is beautiful, thus the art that we use to portray the gospel should also be beautiful. Generally speaking, as Christians, we are consuming great theological content, but often that content is not packaged in a way that allows us to experience the fullness of God’s beauty.

When we choose to portray the gospel in visually poor ways, we devalue the beauty that its message represents. As a consequence, our understanding of it will be insufficient and our perception will be inaccurate.

Beautiful things are powerful. Powerful things are beautiful. The gospel is powerful. Thus, beauty and sound theology should be inseparable.

In light of this, Eleazar, Bekah and Rommel Ruiz decided to launch a publishing company that cares about sound doctrine, storytelling, beauty, and tasteful packaging. They hope to continue producing, promoting, and supporting art that represents biblical literary works well.
